If Disney bought GSN....
« on: May 31, 2005, 07:02:18 PM »
Hello again, Since all of you don't like the idea of Viacom of buying GSN, here's another one.

If Disney bought GSN, what would you think they would change?  I am thinking always of eliminating squeezed credis, fee plug omissions and closings being cut-off.  They would also restore the channel's former origin by renaming it GameNet (The new way to watch game shows).  They would also merge it into the ABC Cable Networks Group.

Believe me, if Summer Redstone won't deal with this, I hope Michael Eisner will.

What are your suggestions?

I ask again: what evidence do you have that Eisner, or Iger, or whoever runs Disney in the future wouldn't do exactly what GSN is doing now?

And before you post the same thing again with another company, feel free to replace "Michael Eisner/Disney" with "Rupert Murdoch/News Corporation," "Bob Wright/NBC Universal," or any other media baron/conglomerate combination.  Then answer the question again.

And maybe they'd dust off "Contraption" and "Teen Win, Lose, or Draw" too.

And maybe they'd move the Scrabble tournament and the spelling bees from ESPN to GSN.

Yes, he does.  They're launching the Mario & Ryan Channel next week.

If you read "Disneywar" (which I have) you'll know that Disney is still hurting from acquiring Fox Family about 5 years ago. They're not looking to make any further cable acquisitions, preferring instead to build what they want from the ground up. Besides, game shows don't really fit in with their overall strategy. They're not sitting on a huge archive of them like some other companies.
